I chose to add my mother's maiden name to my name (1) because it's a cool name, and (2) because she's one of two daughters, so neither I nor my cousins inherited the name. She and my aunt were both sad that there wouldn't be any more Ferraris in their family after them. But the fun thing about changing your name is that you can fix things like that.
